AUTISM, THE UNSOLVED PANDEMIC OF THE 21st CENTURY
Only a few years ago, one in every 68 children in the United States was diagnosed with autism, less than a decade ago that number was one in 88, while in the year 2000 it was one in 150.

In China, one in 55 children is affected by autism, Europe and other regions around the globe are reporting similar rates.
Current Figures are Even Worse
Autism is a medical and social issue that has been addressed by many but solved by no one. Compounding the autism issue is the rapid increased incidence of autism.
If current trends continue mankind we may very well be facing a turning point in man’s evolution, for the first time in history we are confronted with a danger of regression of the medical and mental state of man.

CURRENT TREATMENT & RESEARCH
While some progress has been made, there is as of yet no conclusive agreement as to the origins or treatment methods of autism.
Vaccine’s are currently a controversial subject, and whereas the CDC currently denies any links between vaccines and autism, it has now admitted and issued warnings on its website Centers for Disease Control.gov against the use of certain prescription drugs during pregnancy, explicitly stating there is an “absolute risk” associated with these drugs.

There are a wide variety of treatments, methods and philosophies with varying success rates.
The wide range of treatment methods available is indicative of the fact that we simply do not know the true cause of autism. Further research is therefore vital if we wish to come to future generations.
AUTISM RESEARCH OVERVIEW
Statistics based on the review of scientific literature, and over 150 references to peer-reviewed scientific research studieson the efficacy of various treatment methods were compiled.

Physicians, nutritionists, researchers, and parents were also consulted by the Autism Research Institute (ARI). The goal, to identify and treat the underlying causes of the symptoms of autism, based on medical testing, scientific research, and clinical experience.

Over a 150 studies were reviewed and 27,000 parents were consulted to find out what type of programs were most effective in producing improvement.

Programs were divided into biomedical and drug treatments.
​
Survey of parents concluded Biomedical Treatment to be safer and more effective.
PARENT RATINGS OF BEHAVIORAL EFFECTS OF BIOMEDICAL INTERVENTIONS
The Autism Research Institute (ARI) surveyed over 27,000 parents on their opinion of the effectiveness of various treatments for children with autism.
Statistical analysis indicates biomedical and orthomolucular treatment is currently more effective and safer than pharmaceutical treatment.

The logical conclusion is to further investigate biomedical solutions, as the largest percentage of improvement suggests the resolution of autism may be found in this field. Incidentally this theory coincides of many prominent researchers, past and present, including several Nobel Prize Laureates.

When dealing with the lives of loved ones and children, it only makes sense to take the safest course of action with the highest probability of success.
A FEW NOTEWORTHY FACTS BY PROMINENT RESEARCH FACILITIES
Genetics Does Not Explain Autism.
A Stanford University study of twins published recently suggests that genetics accounts for only 38 percent of autism risk. This is contrary to previously held views on the cause of autism.

Prior studies of shared autism in twins, proposed that 90 percent of autism risk was attributable to genes and a mere 10 percent of risk was attributed to non-genetic environmental factors.
​
Contrary to this view, more recent and accurate research by Stanford, the largest ever study of twins in which at least one in each pair has autism — finds the opposite: It discovers that genes are the lesser risk factor. accounting for just 38 percent of autism risk, the balance of risk, 62 percent, being associated with environmental factors.
THE IMMUNE SYSTEM & AUTISM
There is emerging evidence that a dysregulated or abnormal immune response may be involved in some forms of ASD.
In general, the links between the immune and neurological systems are becoming increasingly well known.
Cytokines and other products of immune activation have widespread effects on neuronal pathways. They can alter behavior, mood and sleep.
GASTROINTESTINAL DISORDERS
Gastrointestinal (GI) disorders are among the most common medical conditions associated with autism.
Reports from pediatric gastroenterology and general autism clinics have isolated Gastrointestinal symptoms in 46–84% of patients with forms of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
OTHER MEDICAL ISSUES THAT COME WITH AUTISM
In addition, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that children with autism or other developmental
disorders have higher than expected rates of an even broader range of medical conditions.
Specifically, these children are:

1.8 times more likely than children without developmental disabilities to have asthma

1.6 times more likely to have eczema or skin allergies
​

1.8 times more likely to have food allergies
​

2.2 times more likely to have chronic severe headaches
​

3.5 times more likely to have chronic diarrhea or colitis (inflammation of the colon)

CHEMICALS & TOXINS
A study spearheaded by the advocacy organization Environmental Working Group found an average of 200 industrial chemicals in the umbilical cord blood of 10 babies born in U.S. hospitals in 2004.
​
Growing children are extremely sensitive to chemicals, even at very low doses. And of all the developing organs, the brain may be the most vulnerable.​
SUMMARY
While there is much more information on this subject there is a common denominator to be explored that binds the most successful treatment programs and the common medical symptoms.
​
Inadequate immune system response, and arrested development of bodily functions, with the largest percentage of these traceable to environmental factors.
​
The only upside of this is that environmental factors are generally more treatable than genetics, we can then hope for a possible resolution or successful treatment program for the larger majority once this condition is more fully understood.
